# Setup Emacs

* get the latest version of installed packages and refresh the repo cache
```
sudo apt update
```

* install Emacs directly from the official repository
```
sudo apt install emacs --no-install-recommends
```

* personalise Emacs by copying this
[.emacs file](.emacs)
into the users root folder ```~/```
```
cp doc/.emacs ~/
```
